Zion Chapel Alumni Association
The Alumni Association was established in early 2011 with the help of a former principal. We had a great start with alumni that paid dues and were proud to give a scholarship of $1000.00 in May. We established guidelines – learned as we grew, did fundraisers, had a great group of mostly older alumni working, some are still active, and some are unable or deceased to this point. Our active members are dedicated, very few people.
Since the origination of our association. We have revamped our scholarship requirements somewhat as we gave our original of $1000.00, as a lump sum, we are giving $500.00, two payments as many were dropping out and money was gone, something or someone else using the money, just part of life as well circumstances of people trying to decide what they do with their life. Other changes are possible if we continue. Our $2000.00 scholarship has strict policies as well.
With the book, The Tradition Continues, we have sold most of them, we do have a few left to sell, we paid the publisher, gave $3000.00 to 2020 seniors, when the remainder are sold, we will probably have a good cushion to continue doing our scholarships for a couple of years. Also, with the book contacts were made, membership increased, as well as some giving donations to help, which were greatly appreciated.
To this point we have given $24,000.00 to deserving students which is exceptionally good for our small number of people working. As well as donations to the school for other needs.
We are unable to meet presently, we do hope to resume before the summer. We want to encourage other alumni to step up, younger parents of students that are alumni, help us, we have worked hard, we are in a good place, we need new officers, we need fresh ideas, our bylaws need updating as this was new to us when we started this adventure, made them a lot harder than they are. Also, if we had a large membership, younger people, as there is alumnus that love our school, we found out during conversations as well as responses shared, as we were putting the book together, dues of $30.00 per person, could do wonders for scholarships as well as other needs of the school. We as older workers - welcome others that will help as well as keep this program afloat.
If you are a member already, we are collecting dues for 2021, or if you join as a new member, mail your check to Zion Chapel Alumni Association, P O box 56, Jack, Al. 36346. Also, those that gave extra last year or will this year, greatly appreciated.
Also, if you or someone you know are interested, the book is $30.00, message this page, mail a check to P O Box address, send email to zcalumni@gmail.com with questions or we will also mail it to you. Please add $5.00 for postage. We also have a PayPal Acct. We have mailed many to many states. It has many great stories as well as memories shared, pictures, much history, information shared that is of interest to those that love the school.
Also, forward this to others that might like to keep up with this group.
Thanks to all who have joined, those that will, or who have bought a book or will, in advance from The Alumni Association.
