Bio

You may not believe it is possible, but I grew up in a town that is smaller than Jack, Alabama!  My parents have a cattle farm in a town called Sandy Ridge, which is located in Lowndes County, AL.  I am the youngest of four boys with no sisters.  I graduated salutatorian from Greenville Academy in 2000.  I loved playing football and I ran several events on the track team.  I went to Troy University (then called Troy State) on a full academic scholarship. My major was Design Technology and Industry with a minor in Military Science and another concentration in French.  I completed the honors program and took every course of French offered by Troy University including a summer living in the south of France.

I began the ROTC program during college and upon graduation in 2005, I received a commission as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army. I worked and trained at posts all over the United States.  I am a veteran of the war in Iraq and I'm sure the students will hear many adventures about my time there.  I have many awards and medals, but the three which bring back the most memories for me are my purple heart, my combat infantry badge, and my airborne wings.  At the rank of captain, my time in the Army ended in 2010 and I decided to come back to Troy, AL to work on a new career.

I took master's classes in education while working as a scuba diving and lifeguard instructor.  In the middle, I took time off to explore the world to see and do many of the things I had always dreamed of.  My wife Carrie and I got married in March of 2013 and she moved from her hometown of Opelika, AL to our home in Troy. For a while it was the two of us and our miniature shih tzu Pearl, but on May 27, 2015 we met the newest member of our family when my son Eli was born. This little guy became the center of my world and he couldn't be happier today to be a Z.C. Rebel.

Some of you may remember me from the other side of the campus.  I taught Science and History for 4 years in the 6th grade before making the move up to the big kids.  Now I get to teach Anatomy and Biology.  I love this town, my fellow teachers, my administrators and especially my students! I am so blessed to be able to talk about the things I love and share my own search for understanding with these kids.  My greatest goal above our standards is to begin a lifetime of asking the question "why?" in all they do. I want them to see things each day and begin a discovery of why they are the way they are.

I want to thank all the parents who give their support to us and for our students who work hard every day to be their best. I'm looking forward to another year of great adventures!
